The GIMA awards are recognised as the garden industry event of the year.  Open to suppliers of products being sold within the garden retail sector, this annual event is now in its 39th year and continues to go from strength to strength.

With 14 categories of awards, there’s plenty of opportunity to get your entry in front of this year’s panel of influential judges.  Selected from the top UK garden retailers and joined by consumer and trade journalists this year’s judging panel reflects the onichannel nature of our industry.

Recognising excellence in new products, marketing support and export achievements, entering and winning these coveted prizes is a significant achievement.

How To Enter

To enter the awards simply complete the online entry form for each category you wish to enter.  Once completed, you must then send us your product for judging.  Closing date for entries: 17th May 2019.

Send Your Products for Judging

Products or marketing samples should arrive by post or courier or can be delivered in person to the judging venue, Warwick Racecourse, on Tuesday 18th June. Attach a copy of the label provided to identify the company, product & category being entered.  This is for identification purposes only and will be removed before judging.  If you are entering larger items which you need to assemble yourself, please bring them to the venue on Tuesday 18th June.

Award winners will be announced at the Gala Dinner on the 4th July, make sure you’re there to hear the news on the night. Book your place at the GIMA Awards Dinner without delay!

Award Categories

The GIMA Awards recognise excellence in new products, marketing and export success.

Entries for the 2019 awards must relate to products and marketing activities available to all retailers launched during the current season from June 2018 – May 2019 inclusive

Private label product is not eligible for entry.

Products may only be entered into a maximum of 2 product categories.

The organisers reserve the right to suggest alternative categories for your entry if it is felt to have been entered incorrectly

Marketing Categories

B1 Best Point of Sale Material

Including indoor or outdoor merchandisers, displays, promotions, point of sale and video presentations. Judging criteria: originality, idea, presentation, use of materials and media.

B2 Best Consumer Product Packaging (consumer packs only)

Judging criteria: fitness for purpose, durability, waste management, suitability for transportation and conveyance of information to the consumer.

B3 Best Marketing Communication & Social Media Award

Whatever the medium to tactics used, and whether the message is to the trade or consumer.  Entries can include traditional printed media, advertising, PR, social media, TV & radio.  Judging criteria: based on originality of idea, execution, results and success and is not based on the level of expenditure.

Special Achievement Awards

GIMA Sword of Excellence

This coveted award is presented to the best of the winners from the nine product categories

Export Achievement Award

(sponsored by Gardenex) To recognise success in selling British garden and leisure products to international markets during the period from January 2016 to the present. To be judged by an independent judging panel via the separate entry form.

Supplier of the Year Award

(sponsored by The Garden Centre Association) To be judged by retailer members of the GCA via a separate entry form circulated to GCA Members. Judges will be looking at the level of support from suppliers in terms of margin potential, value, reliability and other forms of support.
