Mary Bunting, Garden & DIY Buyer

Mary has over 20 years’ experience in the retail sector which has enabled her to gain extensive knowledge across multiple categories such as Garden, Home Décor, Christmas and Fashion Accessories. Now the leading role within the Garden & DIY department at QVC she has been instrumental in achieving significant growth on the department by introducing new and innovative brands and ideas.

Lucy Hall

Lucy Hall, Editor of BBC Gardeners World Magazine

Lucy has been Editor of BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine since 2012, overseeing its transformation from a print title to a multi-format brand with one of the biggest subscriber audiences in UK publishing. Her earliest gardening memory is the smell and taste of fresh tomatoes in her grandfather’s greenhouse and, from then on, she was hooked on growing her own. These days she gardens in the west country, in an awkwardly narrow plot, so making small spaces work hard has become a bit of an obsession.

Boasting an enviable breadth of retail knowledge in leisure, gardening, catering and seasonal ranges, gained over 30 years working in the garden retail sector, Commercial Director Sharon McNair leads the retail team at the independently-owned and ambitious Tong Garden Centre.

Neil Pope is Editor of Garden Trade News. He has been a journalist all his working life, having edited many national consumer magazines, including Garden News. He moved into trade publishing to become editor of Pet Product Marketing before taking over the reins at GTN.


Christopher Ray, B&Q Market Manager

Christopher Ray is an Outdoor Category Manager at B&Q who leads a team driving the structures, landscaping and leisure businesses, growing their sales and market share. After spending nearly two decades working in a number of retail businesses, Christopher knows what truly drives customers to purchase. Having previously worked mainly in fashion it was his desire to help people connect with their homes and gardens that saw him move into the DIY sector.

A truly commercially focused leader, Christopher has landed a significant number of strategic reviews at B&Q as well as engaging the wider colleague community to support Outdoor home improvement. In addition to his extensive retailing experience, Christopher is a keen gardener and is equally at ease down the allotment or on the commercial floor at work.

Andy Smith, Head of Buying, Klondyke Group

With over 30 years experience in the Horticulture and Retail industry. Andy has worked for the supply chain and large garden centre groups including Wyevale and Dobbies. Now head of buying at the Klondyke group where Andy managers all areas of buying.

Stuart Whalley

Stuart Whalley, Head of Product Development, Blue Diamond Group

An ambitious retail professional with over 25 years experience, the latter 20 years within the garden retail sector. Having started with Country Gardens back in 1998, through to Wyevale, then back to Country Gardens, the Garden Centre Group and now in his 5th year at Blue Diamond. Stuart has accumulated broad product knowledge after buying and managing numerous retail areas from Garden Leisure, Garden Care, Landscaping, Gift and Christmas.
Presently focused on product development within Garden Leisure, enhancing the consumer experience and offering a real a point of difference
Sourcing and developiong a comprehensive mixture of own brand and supplier branded products in collaberation with both UK suppliers, as well as sourcing direct from Far East.

Tammy Woodhouse, Millbrook Garden Company

Tammy is Managing Director of The Millbrook Garden Company. With 3 garden centres in Kent and Sussex, Millbrook celebrates its 40th birthday this year having been started by her parents – Dick and Sue Allen in 1979. As a passionate advocate for the industry she sits on the GCA executive board and is chairing the organising committee for the International Garden Centre congress which is being hosted in Windsor in September 2019.
